Who is eligible to receive grants from ARCF? What kinds of grants are available? How can I apply for a grant or scholarship? What if my organization isn’t in one of ARCF’s local office service areas and doesn’t meet the criteria for any current statewide requests for proposals?
If you don’t find your question here, please contact us at 501-372-1116.
ARCF makes grants solely for charitable causes. Registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits and other not-for-profit institutions such as schools, hospitals and government agencies are eligible to receive funding from ARCF. Our grants fall into eight categories: • Animal Welfare • Arts and Humanities • Community Development • Education Environment • Health • Human Services • Religion
Our grants are made from funds established by individuals, families, corporations and nonprofit organizations. Most grants typically fall into four categories:
Donor Advised Grants, made by donors from their own endowments in support of their individual charitable interests. Most of our grants fall into this category.
Designated Grants, made from endowments established by donors to support specific nonprofit organizations or causes they care about.
Scholarships, available for Arkansas residents seeking higher education.
Unrestricted Grants, made through periodic competitive grant processes from both the statewide central office and 26 local offices.
Most of our unrestricted grants and scholarships are awarded at the local level. Each of our 26 local offices has at least one unrestricted grant cycle per year. Click here to find contact information for the local office in your area.
Many scholarships are designated to support students graduating from a particular high school or planning to attend a particular college, and are selected by representatives of the school. Use our scholarship search function or check with your school counselor to find out if a scholarship is available for your high school or college.
Other requests for proposals for specific projects are occasionally available and will be posted on the Grants and Scholarships section of our website and publicized in the media. For example, ARCF makes requests for proposals for
• The Giving Tree program to fund projects that serve emerging needs in the state.
• The Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation grant to fund projects that serve African-Americans and other minority populations.
• The Middle School Science Mini-Grant program to fund hands-on, teacher-initiated science projects for grades 5-8.
Although many of our donors have already decided upon the projects or causes they would like their funds to benefit, we endeavor to make donors aware of other giving opportunities that may interest them.
If you are seeking funding for a particular project or line item, we may be able to include your request in our Giving Together publication, distributed quarterly to all donors. Typically, the projects that are successful in gaining funding through this publication are small (less than $2,500) and very specific (for example, a washing machine for a homeless shelter or a set of books for a literacy program).
